Near colorless diamonds have a grade between G and I on the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) diamond color grading scale.

People use GIA's diamond color grading scale to distinguish between one diamond's color and another easily. The diamond color scale ranges from a D color grade to Z.

A D color diamond is as close as you can get to white diamonds and is the highest color grade, making it extremely rare and expensive. E color diamonds are also colorless, as finding even a slight hint of color takes incredible effort. F color diamonds round out the colorless range.

Near colorless diamonds follow colorless diamonds, with G color diamonds being the highest grade of near colorless diamonds. On its own, it isn't easy to perceive any color in a near colorless diamond, but when you compare it side-by-side to diamonds with higher color grades, it does become more noticeable. J color diamonds are the minimum color grade to be considered a near colorless diamond.

Lower Color Grade Diamonds

The lower the color grade, the more a diamond appears to have a yellow tint. A lower color grade doesn't necessarily indicate a lower diamond quality. There are other factors to consider when assessing the quality of a diamond. Yellow diamonds are known to pair well with antique yellow gold settings that give them a distinct warmth.

Before you buy a lab grown near colorless diamond, you'll want to inspect it under lighting conditions. A diamond's color can vary in appearance under different lights, so you want to ensure you are comfortable with how your near colorless diamond will look in them.
